Meet the Artist
It all started with a little “encouragement” from my wife.
Yvonne and I were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary in Santa Fe when she found a stained glass class and asked if I wanted to give it a try. We spent an afternoon learning the basics. I made a star, and she made a Southwest sun catcher. Working with some of those tools was a little awkward with my big hands, but I was hooked.
We decided stained glass would be a fun hobby to share, so we ordered a starter kit. That one kit led to more tools, more glass, and a growing list of projects we wanted to make. We came up with ideas faster than we could finish them, and before long, finding the right glass became part of the adventure!
Living in the Texas Panhandle, we often had to travel to Dallas, San Antonio, Santa Fe, or Denver to find the selection we wanted. We started thinking about how great it would be to have a place closer to home where people could find quality glass and supplies, learn something new, and meet others who enjoyed the craft.
That idea eventually became Big Papa’s Glass, a veteran-owned business built around something we genuinely love doing.
Today, I get to turn ideas into stained glass, whether I'm creating something inspired by Texas and the Western lifestyle, capturing wildlife and landscapes, or making a piece that holds special meaning for someone.
And the name? My four grandchildren call me Big Papa. It seemed like the right name for a business that started with family and grew into something I could share with others.
